Our story

Our story

A family dream in Murra

Finca La Lila is a family story built through hard work, respect for the land, and human relationships that give meaning to each day. We follow the path our grandfather taught us: caring for the farm is not only about growing coffee or planting trees, but also about valuing people, listening to the community, and keeping alive the bonds of trust that sustain the way we work.

Our family is founded on principles and values that have kept us united for decades, even across time and distance. Mutual support, trust, respect, and closeness are the foundation of our relationships and of the way we understand work. We want to continue growing with dignity, collaboration, and commitment, honoring our grandfather’s legacy: a farm where coffee, forest, work, and people can thrive together.

Human relationships are the foundation of everything we grow.

Commitment

People, land and the future

We believe that truly sustainable coffee cares for both the land and the people who work it. That is why we promote fair opportunities, gender-inclusive participation, and relationships based on respect, collaboration, and trust.

Our commitment is also expressed through the protection of soil, water, and biodiversity, as well as the gradual adoption of circular practices that allow us to make better use of resources, reduce waste, and return value to the farm’s processes.

Agroforestry

Coffee grown as part of a living forest

La Lila’s coffee plots develop beneath native trees of Nueva Segovia, banana and plantain species, fruit trees, and ground cover. This diversity forms an agroforestry system that protects the soil, helps moderate conditions in the coffee fields, and maintains a closer relationship with the region’s agricultural landscape.

Warm days and cool nights, together with shade and ground cover, support a slower and more balanced ripening of the coffee cherries. From this dialogue between climate, soil, shade, and farm management comes a coffee with character, complexity, and an expression of its own.

We grow coffee in dialogue with the forest, the soil, the water, and the rhythms of the mountains.

Goal

Lots with origin, character and a clear expression of La Lila’s landscape.

About our lots and profiles

Our aim is to develop specialty lots for those seeking a cup with origin, character and complexity.

More than producing coffee, we want to reveal the potential of each lot and offer sensory experiences that speak of La Lila, its landscape and the people who cultivate it.

Our vision for 2027

Over the past four years, we have established a young forest that by 2027 is expected to include approximately 4,500 teak trees, 800 cedars and 800 mandagual trees, with the possible addition of up to 2,000 walnut trees.

Alongside this forest system, La Lila will have 13 manzanas of coffee: 8 Catimor, 2 Pacamara and 3 Parainema.

We want to produce with quality, diversify the landscape and care for the environment that makes each harvest possible.

New coffee lots, the shade system and the young forest are part of one shared vision.
